3RD DEGREE
Friday, Nov. 7, Manchester Lodge #12, Coventry, RI
With 7 outings in September including a double on September 6th, we probably cannot accept any more dates in that month except for Cronies who are going into the East. Already, five of our members are being installed this fall.
We have accepted an invitation to appear at the 6th District's Lodge of Instruction (Norwood) on the 4th Friday in April or May of 2009. We shall develop a program consisting of an expanded version of the Club and Mother lodge histories as well as backgrounds on the Pipes, Kilts and Clans. We will march in to seats on the sidelines, present our program and introduce and retire in the usual Club manner. Anyone interested in giving one of the presentations please contact me.
Aye,
Jim Logan

From your Secretary
The following Cronies attended the June Meeting
Ed Shockley, Peter MacDonald, Gordon MacKay, Don Weir, M. M. Romans, John Knox, Arthur McIntyre, Tom Rorrie and Al Nicoll.

Another dues season is upon us. Please try to make the secretary’s job easy by paying your dues A.S.A.P.
PLEASE send in your dues for 2008-2009 and, if you owe past years dues, please remit that amount, too. Dues are $10.
There are quite a number of Cronies that owe a year or more of dues. If you do not wish to remain a member, please let the secretary know so that he may remove your name from the mailing or e-mail list. Those of you who are past due have been notified several times and action will be taken soon to take you off the list. Check your dues card.

From the President
Greetings Cronies,
I hope you all had a very enjoyable and restful summer. As we begin the new Masonic year much is happening with our Club. We have several outings this fall as well as our own Club Installation. Out of 8 Installations scheduled 5 incoming Masters are fellow Cronies so it will be very important for all of us to come out and support them. Also Cronie Ed Shockley will be installed as our next president on Sat, Oct 11 at 3:30 PM at the Masonic building in Stoughton. Please come out in your Kilts to support the Club and the Degree team.
If you haven’t been out to a Club meeting in awhile (2nd Tuesdays) please attend soon. Meetings usually only last an hour after which we have a collation and much socializing. We could use your input and ideas for Club functions and outings.

A wee bit of Scottish Masonic History
From Robert L. D. Cooper, Curator, the Grand Lodge of Scotland Museum and Library
The Grand Lodge of Scotland (GLOS) Museum and Library contains a most unusual archive with records from 1598. The names of Freemasons from that date are recorded from that time although not in a comprehensive way until 1736 when membership records for all of Scotland's Lodges exist from then to the present day. The first Freemason in America was a guy from Aberdeen in 1680. Paul Revere was a member (in fact Secretary and Master) of a Scottish Lodge in Boston Mass. John Paul Jones was a Mason in a Lodge in Kirkcudbright, George Washington brought stonemasons (who were members of Masonic Lodge) to the USA to build the White House. At least two Scottish Freemasons married native Americans and became head of their adopted tribe (the clan - tribe similarities together with the oral tradition on which Scottish Freemasonry is based has not been explored). One of them negotiated a treaty directly with George Washington because they were both Freemasons! The list of such stuff is pretty lengthy.
Yours Aye,
Jim Logan

Would someone like to volunteer to provide collation for the September Meeting?
If so, give Jim a call so we don’t have too much, not that that’s bad.
